March Madness Prediction Quiz
« on: February 28, 2010, 08:11:24 AM »
Well, we all put on our bracketologist hats every year and try to figure out who's going to win the tournament, but I thought this might be a little bit of extra fun. It's a little thing whereby you predict something a bit more indepth than just which teams are going to win games, although some questions do ask you to pick who's going to be winning and losing certain games. There are 43 questions. If you're in, just PM me your answers for each question. You have up until the Saturday before Selection Sunday to answer.

I can't really offer any sort of prize, apart from the glory of being this place's resident March Madness Nostradamus. I'll be answering as well, so even if you think you're the only one in, you'll at least have me to be up against.

Questions:

Selection Sunday

1.   How many teams from the Atlantic 10 will reach the tournament? (2pts)
2.   Which team will be the ESPN/USA Today #1 ranked team at Selection Sunday? (1pt)

4.   How far will the winner of the play-in game go? (1pt)
5.   How many points will be scored in the play-in game? (10pts for correct guess, subtract 1pt for each point away, down to 1pt for 9 away)

First Round

1.   How many upsets will there be in the first round? (5pts)

Cool idea man.  A little daunting, but I think it'll be cool - I'm in.  For everyone's info, selection Sunday is March 14th.  So I guess we have until ... this Saturday?

And should we do part of this after selection Sunday? cause otherwise we pick the brackets and then pick them again according to the real tournament bracket?  idk, I guess that's cool to do both.

Nope, just answer all the questions before Selection Sunday. I tried to make it so most of the questions regarding naming specific teams are all locks to make the tournament, so it'll just be a matter of how well you can predict who'll be where.

If Selection Sunday is the 14th, then you have until the 13th.

I don't get to see anything of anything.

Well, actually, I could've seen Dook v MD, but I was somewhere. Wasn't on live though. UConn and ND was on instead, IIRC.

Sorry man, I meant to do it on Saturday and then ended up forgetting about it until I realized it was Selection Sunday.  ..  guess I need to fill out my bracket too.  This year's tournament is so weak.  Oh well, I hope a lot of the "little schools" that don't get much time in the limelight make a big showing.  I'd love to see Sienna go the distance this tourney.

Are you back in AUS now?  I think I remember reading that in your other thread, but that would mean you shortened your trip, amiright?

Yeah, I'm back in Australia. Have been since the 21st of January. Got sent to secondary inspection by US customs at Pearson International in Toronto. Apparently being tired at 4am is enough to suspect you of having drugs in your luggage.

So why the shortened trip man?  I thought you were gonna be there in Canadia for a while longer?   Wow, that sucks, good thing they checked the dangerous Australian kid who appeared tired.  Don't want too many people being sleepy.

I shortened it because I wanted to go back to school in Australia...doing a Bachelor of Sports Management now. Then it's off to the States as a Grad Assistant soccer coach (hopefully).

That's the plan. And then get a NCAA soccer coaching job.

That would be awesome - I imagine those are tough jobs to get too.  I wonder if that would actually work out in your favor, being from down under and all, having grown up with soccer more infused in your culture.
